The cap also features some delicate, highly detailed sgraffito incised banding at its top & a curled, beaded cap base. The entire pewter flask doesn't suffer from any measurable dings or dents, which is remarkable in & of itself, knowing the pewter flask is from the mid-19th c & now nearly, if not, 150-170 yrs old. The collapsed, concave sidewalls are intentional & were designed for the pocket flask to be easily gripped & held. There are some minor abrasions & scuffs to its surface but these aren't deep or significantly damage the pc. They represent prior use & previous wear & are consistent w/a pewter flask of this age & antique pedigree. It's an earlier 19th c pewter flask & from the US Civil War era, w/its spare dec & primitive, basic form. A remarkable American, mid-19th c artifact. Nice.
